Originally built by the current owner’s parents in the 1960’s, this colonial was in need of a facelift. Despite lower ceilings on the ground floor, the entertaining spaces of the house needed a connection to the vast back deck and immaculate property. Where an existing, narrow opening used to reside, a custom built-in banquette becomes the physical and visual connection piece between the living room and kitchen. The profile of the kitchen cabinets references the heavier old-world aesthetic of the furnishings as do the wide-plank, herringbone floors. As a space with limited options for bringing in natural light, the interior finishes work in complement to lighten the space while still providing a cozy interior.
